A lifetime member of the Gold Prospector's Association, I have long taken a dog out prospecting , but never even thought of teaching a dog to help prospect. This little book is informative and concise without a lot of fluff. It came in time to save a relationship with a fat dog.The fun (real laughter) and exercise in the dog searching for gold has made us both feel younger and happier...that alone is worth more than all the gold in the world!! Thank you Ray Austin for adding to the gold prospecting experience.
Wow! What is going on here? What did I stumble into? The typos on the back jacket say it all. SERIOUSLY! Either this is a weird scam, or the author and/or some affiliated individuals have mental disabilities. I hope it’s the former so I’m not being a jerk.
23 pages this is a pamphlet a rip off
This is a 20 page booklet. It is VERY expensive for what you get and I feel it was a misrepresentation. MORAL Pay attention to page count.
My dog loves rocks and i live in a gold mining area, i joked i should train her to find gold and then found this book. Ill let you know how it goes.

I have done almost everything you say to do in your book and my dog, a 12 week old, half Border Collie and half Lab pup is doing great. We got her fresh from her mother.
After only two weeks of training three times a day, I was able to wean her off treats and now she loves praises for a job well done. I probable could have weaned her off food treats way sooner, but did not. I have not tested her in the field with planted target yet, but that is coming very soon.
For those who think the price of this book is to much for the 23 pages of information it contains, you are truly judging it by its cover. You remind me of John in this following story. There once was a miner who had a very rich gold mine. He told his friend John to come to his mine in the morning with his pick and shovel and he could dig gold all day long and keep all he took out. John was very excited and accepted the invitation.
The next day, the miner waited for John to come and dig in his gold mine. He waited all day long but John never came.
A few days later, the miner ran into John down town. “I waited for you the other day John but you did not show up. You could be a very rich man now. What happened?” John replied “When I went to buy a pick and shovel, they wanted $15.00 for each one. I could not believe those prices they wanted for those two tools. I am not going to pay that price so I did not buy them.”

Update I tested her in the field the other day with a planted target and it did not go well. I know she picked up the scent, but she just passed over it. She acted like she was bored with it all. Because of their superior intelligence, border collies learn quickly but need new things to learn on a regular basis to keep things interesting for them.
Update #2 I went back to food treats and she is doing real great now. More field trips with planted targets coming up. This book gives the basics because along the way, you have to learn what your dog is telling you. So it is not only your dog learning, it is you learning too and the most.
Update #3. She is now 10 months old and it looks like she will soon be an expert at this. She does not give any more false signals.
Update #4. She is doing great. Took her out in the field and she will sniff where I point to but I need to work with her to not be distracted and to range out more. Time will fis that.
